Natural Living...Not just for Hippies anymore
I was 28, just had an emergency c-section, my firstborn was fighting for his life, born at 28 weeks and natural living, was seriously the furthest thing from my mind!
In a matter of weeks, I went from shopping whatever smelled the best for a good price, to ZERO, yes ZERO fragrance in everything...why? Because I had to! It really wasn't a choice at this point, it was a must. I was told that all those fragrances could damage my newborns tiny frail immune system, that his senses would become overwhelmed with consequences from sleepless nights, to failure to thrive and everything in between--gahh!! Are you kidding me!?!
I literally had no idea. I mean, I knew that eating whole foods was good for you, but I never imagined what I put on my body could harm another person...and if it can harm my newborn, is there a chance it can harm me? The simple answer, YES!! This idea of choosing products that do not harm me, turned into a whole lifestyle change of living more naturally. We now make choices for more natural food, natural/plant-based products, less toxic toys, and secondhand-furniture.
Now, a decade later, I feel empowered! It's been a challenging journey but, with the right knowledge, anyone can directly improve their family's wellness. Best of all, it can begin with the simplest of changes, like removing artificial fragrances!!!
We now have 5 kids. With each of those pregnancies I became more and more empowered to look at wellness as a proactive approach. The more I use naturally based products and eat cleaner food, the more I'm compelled to continue. I've experienced less headaches, fixed fertility issues, improved skin issues and WAY-WAY more and I want everyone to feel empowered with their health, knowing simple changes in food and product choice, can have a huge impact on wellbeing.
I know that not everyone loves to research (I actually LOVE it!), so my goal is to make wellness simple. I like to take hard to understand concepts and break them down to small simple to understand pieces, big changes into small manageable changes and here's why...
At one point in our wellness journey I went full crunchy naturalist, we're talking, only shopping at the natural co-op, make everything from scratch kind of natural. Wouldn't you know it, I totally burned-out! (hah! Who knew, right!?!).
I quickly learned that if my family and I were going to keep these changes, they needed to be small changes and they needed to be simple. So, let's all have a good laugh at my expense and not do the same!
No one needs to be a Hippie to experience a natural lifestyle, more and more products are being offered daily and with a little help from mamas like me, you can be well on your way to living more naturally.
